Jubile Celebrations June 2022

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Like many other villages, towns and cities around the country, Barrow upon Trent will celebrate the 70 years of our Queen's reign. The Bank Holiday weekend will cover Thursday 2nd June – Sunday 5th June. The festivities in Barrow upon Trent will be on Friday 3rd June. The road in front of the Row will be closed to traffic between 12.30pm and 4.30pm. There will be a Street Party for everyone. Anyone who would like to bring their own food and drink is welcome to join in, but the Brookfield will also provide a barbecue and drinks. There will be trestle tables and chairs set up in the street, but please feel free to bring your own too if you wish. The street will also be decorated with bunting and flags. A steel pan band will play during the afternoon to add a special atmosphere to the party. In the evening the Brookfield will have an entertainer. In addition, there will be several side shows: A wandering Magician – Paul Grundle will circulate around the party, giving us a mind-boggling performance of illusion. A Circus Skills performer will introduce anyone who would like to have a go to skills such as juggling, stilts, plate spinning, unicycle riding etc. Two inflatables will be situated outside the school; one for the children, and the other for anyone. In addition, there will be the opportunity to have a face tattoo (strictly washable) for the children! There will be a competition for the best crown or hat. This competition is being run by the WI, and there will be a parade of the hats and crowns, followed by a display in the Brookfield. The best hat or crown in each category will win a prize. Please see the advert in this magazine and let your artistic skills come to the fore! An Ice cream van will be available and food and drink will be offered during the day at the Brookfield.
