Cllr James Bates
I'm originally from Ashbourne, where my family have lived for well over a century. I have lived in and around Derby for the last 20 years. Most recently moving from Chellaston, and very much enjoying being back in South Derbyshire.
I do have experience as a parish councillor being chair of Hilton parish council in the past, as well experience working with safer neighbourhoods, charities and community groups. I am also currently chair of governors at Church Broughton Primary School which my daughter attends. My two older sons attend the John Port Spencer Academy in Etwall.
Barrow upon Trent parish council have responsibility for some excellent community assets. I'm keen to learn more about these and ensure that they continue to be available for community benefit and maintained to the high standards which the parish council have achieved, in the context of an ever-changing village including commercial and domestic developments on our doorstep.
As part of my role as a parish councillor I have offered to attend liaison meetings with both DCC and SDDC to keep abreast of the broader South Derbyshire and Derbyshire issues, as well as being actively involved in all aspects of the parish council's work.
In my day to day life, I am the Managing Director of a food manufacturing company in Staffordshire where I have worked for 15 years. In my spare time (when I get any!) myself and my boys are season ticket holders at Derby County.
I look forward to working for the community, so please feel free to get in touch with me. I would encourage anybody with any questions, comments or gripes to please join us at parish council meeting where they would be most welcome
