A message from Derbyshire County Council

Temporary 30mph maximum speed restriction on the A514, Swarkestone

When?
From 20th September 2010 to 4th October 2010.

Where?
To prohibit traffic from travelling at a speed in excess of 30mph on A514 at Swarkestone between its junction with A50 Trunk Road Interchange and its junction with unnamed road to “Swarkestone Lock”.

Reason?
Carriageway resurfacing.

The restriction will be in force for the time stated or until the work is finished. This may be earlier than advertised.

Derbyshire County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused while work takes place. Anyone needing further information should ring Call Derbyshire 08456 058 058.

The County Council intends to make/has made an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) to prohibit traffic from travelling at a speed in excess of 30mph.

Towards the end of July the Mini Ramblers set off en masse (43 humans and a goodly number of dogs) for what we hope will be an Annual Summer event.  After a brief socialise at the Brookfield, we headed off to the canal and turned left, then after about an hour of walking and talking arrived at the Nadee Indian Restaurant in Findern.  As the younger ramblers played in the sand pit and on the football pitch the adults enjoyed a well deserved reviving drink, before we were served some fantastic curries in the thatched gazebos.  Tired, full, refreshed and happy we returned to Barrow!

The Mini Ramblers is open to parents, adults and children of all ages (the oldest child was 43 on this walk).

Whoever you are you are welcome to join us on our rambles, which are usually about an hour on a Sunday afternoon 8 times a year.  The only qualifying criteria is some connection to Barrow and the Parish and a happy outgoing personality.

St Wilfrid’s Church celebrates Harvest Festival with a family “Songs of Praise”. Please come and join us on the 26th September 2010 at 5.30pm.

On Saturday 25th September everyone in the parish is invited to a special Celebration Day that will take place on the Community Park from 1.00pm to 5.00pm.  There will be food, games, music, competitions, a treasure hunt, and lots of other things to do.  Please join us – make a note in your diary.  Families of Sale and Davy’s school children are also welcome.

Following the afternoon activities, the Brookfield Club will host a Barbecue in the Club garden with a marquee and band.

The Youth Group rounded off its year with a barbecue in July attended by about twenty of our members.  We would like to thank Doris Atkin for allowing us to use her garden and field for this annual event that was enjoyed by everyone.  We still haven’t recovered the Frisbees!

If anyone would like to join us in September you have to be of secondary school age and live in Barrow parish.  We meet every Wednesday evening in term time in St Wilfrid’s Church from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.   Our first Youth Group evening of the new term will be on September 15th.

As a result of requests for fishing at Greenacres from the survey in the Parish Plan, the Parish Council has agreed in principle to allow limited fishing provided that it can be con- trolled and policed. A members only club will be formed at Brookfield.

• Club Members only will be allowed to fish
• Fishing will be limited to approximately 20% of the bank area
• No vehicles may be parked on Green Lane (Drop off only)

A meeting will be held at the Brookfield Club on 7th September 2010 at 7.30pm.

Any persons who are interested in fishing or are willing to help with the establishment of the fishing club would be most welcome.
